We are very proud of our standards-based curriculum that consists of both core and elective classes.
  • Freshman year: two semester core, literature is genre-based, includes composition, grammar, vocabulary, and speech
  • Sophomore year: two semester core, world literature based, includes composition, grammar, vocabulary, and speech
  • Junior year: first semester is core American literature; second semester is a choice from six junior electives in literature and composition
  • Senior year: first semester is core British literature; second semester is a choice from four senior electives in literature and composition
       Advanced options:
  • Freshman, sophomore: Accelerated level
  • Junior Advanced Placement Literature and Composition (syllabus certified by AP College Board)
     
  • Senior English: W131 (composition): dual credit option with Indiana University, Bloomington
  • Senior Advanced Placement Language and Composition (syllabus certified by AP College Board)
     
Our department is composed of energetic, student-oriented teachers with a wide range of teaching experience. Working collaboratively to update our curriculum offerings every year, this department continually strives to improve what we do for students, preparing them for higher education and for the real world.
